Can My Existing Fire Door Be Repaired?
Whether a door can be repaired depends on several factors. We assess each door before recommending remedial work.
- Known construction and provenance of the door and frame
- Available labels, plugs or records of the original specification
- Extent and location of damage or wear
- Condition of the frame, lining and fixings
- Compatibility of replacement components with the door's specification
Where repair cannot reasonably restore the fire and smoke performance the door is required to provide, we recommend replacement rather than a repair that leaves the defect in place. Remedial Works Following a Fire Door Inspection
If you already have a fire door inspection report, we can turn its defect schedule into a priced programme of remedial works. We review the report, clarify any gaps or ambiguities, and visit site where necessary to confirm current condition. Where no recent report exists, we can assess the doors on site to confirm the remedial scope, and a formal inspection can be arranged through our specialist inspection contractor where one is required.
Either way, you receive a clear quotation with repairs itemised and replacement recommendations explained.
Typical Remedial Scenarios
Illustrative examples of how common findings are usually handled — not records of specific jobs. The right answer for any door depends on its construction and condition.
Communal door: gaps and painted seals
Report notes oversized head gap and over-painted intumescent strip. If the frame is secure and the leaf sound, the hinges may be adjusted or the leaf rehung, and seals renewed with a compatible type. If the gap cannot be brought within the doorset's tolerance, replacement is priced as an alternative.
Flat entrance: closer does not latch
Door drifts shut but does not engage the latch. Usually a closer adjustment, worn hinge or keep alignment issue. A compatible closer is fitted where the existing one cannot be set to close and latch the door reliably.
HMO bedroom: holes from old locks
Redundant lock and spyhole holes in the leaf. Whether they can be made good depends on the leaf construction and the manufacturer's supported repair method; where neither can be established, replacement may be the sounder option.

What we do — and what we do not
We price and carry out repair, remedial and replacement work. Our works site visit confirms scope and price only; it is not a formal fire door inspection and does not produce an inspection report or compliance certificate. Formal inspections, reports and reinspections are arranged through an external specialist inspection contractor.
Doors that need replacing are priced under replacement doorset installation in the same quotation.
