Fire Doors for GP, Dental & Outpatient Clinics

Clinics run to appointment sessions, with patients, clinical rooms and confidential records in the same building. Parsec Fire Doors repairs, replaces and installs fire doors in GP surgeries, dental practices and outpatient clinics, planning the work around sessions and the practice's own procedures, and working from the fire risk assessment or a specialist fire door report.

Doors Typical In Clinic Buildings

Which doors need fire-resisting performance depends on the building's fire strategy and assessment. These are the openings most often involved in clinic works.

Corridor and waiting-area doors

High-use doors on patient routes, often held open by devices linked to the fire alarm and tested by heavy traffic and wheelchairs.

Consulting and treatment rooms

Doors where the assessment identifies a fire-resisting role, with privacy, signage and access requirements to respect.

Records, stores and server rooms

Rooms holding records, consumables or IT, often with added locks that need to be compatible with the doorset.

Plant, decontamination and utility

Plant rooms and, in dental practices, decontamination rooms and utility spaces where the strategy identifies them.

Programming Around Clinic Sessions

The practice manager usually knows which rooms are free and when. We programme from the session plan, releasing rooms one or two at a time, and keep patient routes usable. Work that creates noise or dust is moved to before or after sessions or to closed periods where the scope allows.

  • Session timetable and room availability agreed in advance
  • Patient routes and accessible entrances kept usable
  • Dust and debris controlled and the area left clean to the practice's standard
  • Clinical and records areas entered only as the practice allows
  • Each opening checked for closing, latching and any hold-open release before handback

Hold-Open Devices, Access Control And Privacy Hardware

Clinics often use hold-open devices to keep corridor doors open for patients, and access control to separate public and staff areas. Where these interface with the fire alarm or an access system, we agree the split of work with the system provider so the door closes when it should and the interface is not left untested.

Privacy hardware, vision panel covers and added locks must be compatible with the doorset's supported specification. We do not add hardware that could compromise the door's performance.

Illustrative Example

Illustrative only, not a completed job: a GP surgery's action list notes a corridor door that no longer closes when its hold-open device releases, a store door with a lock fitted through the edge seals, and two consulting room doors with excessive gaps.

The store door and gaps are assessed for repair. The corridor door's closer and hold-open release are checked together with the alarm contractor present. Work is split across two afternoons with no sessions in the affected rooms.

Repair Or Replacement

Many clinic door faults are wear, damage or unsuitable additions on otherwise sound doorsets, and can be repaired. Replacement is proposed where the leaf or frame is badly damaged, alterations cannot be supported, construction cannot be established for the required performance, or repair would not reasonably restore it.
