Fire Doors in Wirksworth
Fire door repairs, upgrades and like-for-like replacement for older town buildings, small shared premises and converted upper floors in Wirksworth.
Wirksworth is a market town in the Derbyshire Dales with a designated conservation area. If you have a handful of doors to deal with in an older building — a shop with a flat above, a small shared house or a community building — the question is how to deal with each door properly without over-scoping the job.
We carry out the repairs, upgrades and replacements identified in your fire risk assessment or fire door report, and price small jobs on their own merits rather than bundling in work that is not needed.
Small Jobs, Done Properly
Many enquiries from smaller premises involve two to six doors. That is a normal job for us: each door is looked at on its own, priced as a repair, an upgrade or a replacement, and recorded when complete so you have something to show your fire risk assessor, landlord or insurer.
Where only one or two items on an action list relate to doors — a closer that no longer latches, a damaged seal, a gap under a door — we can deal with those without turning the visit into a wider programme.
- Individual doors priced on their own merits
- Closers, hinges, seals and gaps corrected where the door is sound
- Door-by-door record on completion
Older Buildings And Uneven Openings
The national planning data register records Wirksworth's conservation area as designated by Derbyshire Dales District Council from August 1970. Conservation area status does not by itself mean internal fire door work needs consent; listed buildings are different, and the position for a particular building should be confirmed with the district council before works are agreed.
Older openings are rarely square. Frames out of plumb, sloping floors and thick walls affect whether an existing door can be adjusted to close and seal, and how a new doorset would be fitted. We look at this on site before recommending a route, rather than assuming a standard doorset will suit.
- Out-of-square frames and sloping floors
- Deciding between upgrading an existing door and fitting a new doorset
- Checking listed building questions with the district council
Community, Shared And Above-Shop Premises
Community halls, small shared houses and flats over shops each rely on a small number of doors doing their job — often the door between a shop or kitchen and a shared stair. Those doors are prioritised first, repaired where they can be and replaced with FD30 or FD30S doorsets where the fire risk assessment calls for it.
We do not produce formal fire door inspection reports ourselves. Where a formal inspection is required, it is arranged through our specialist fire door inspection partner; our own site assessment scopes the works only.
